Source code formatting issues after installing the Dreamweaver Updater
Issue
When the Indent preference for code formatting is unchecked (Edit > Preferences > Code Format category), source code generated by Dreamweaver may be formatted and indented inconsistently and incorrectly. This issue applies only to Dreamweaver MX after the updater is installed (Dreamweaver MX version 6.1).
Reason
The Dreamweaver MX Updater includes significant improvements in how Dreamweaver formats source code. While these changes tend to better preserve any existing formatting in your documents, they result in problems if you have specified a preference of having no indentation.
Solution
Use one of the following two solutions to correct this issue.
| |
Check the Indent preference (go to Edit > Preferences > Code Format category, click the option next to Indent). |
| This solution will allow Dreamweaver to write the code with indents. This solution will allow you to gain the benefits of Dreamweaver's new algorithm for writing source code. |
|
| |
Install the Dreamweaver MX extension fix (available from the Dreamweaver Updater page), which allows Dreamweaver to use the previous code formatting algorithm when the Indent preference is unchecked. The extension is located under the "Dreamweaver MX extension fix for source code formatting issue" heading. |
| This extension will work only with Dreamweaver MX version 6.1, attempting to install it on earlier versions, or later versions when they become available, will have no effect. This extension should only be used if source code formatting without indentation is a priority. After installing the extension, users can switch between the 6.0 and 6.1 formatting algorithms by checking the Indent preference for version 6.1 compatibility, and unchecking it for version 6.0 compatibility. Dreamweaver MX must be restarted for each change to take effect. |
|
| Note:Use of this extension is not supported by Macromedia. Technical Support cannot answer questions pertaining to the use of the version 6.0 formatting algorithm in version 6.1. |
To remove the extension's effects, in other words to revert to version 6.1's formatting algorithm in all cases (Indent preference checked or unchecked), follow these steps:
| 1 | Make sure the Indent preference is checked. |
| 2 | Quit and restart Dreamweaver MX to enable the 6.1 formatting algorithm. |
| 3 | Quit Dreamweaver MX again. |
| 4 | Run the Extension Manager, and disable or remove the Dreamweaver MX extension fix. |
