Macromedia Flash MX cannot be used to create Flash button templates

Issue

Developers creating new button templates for use as Flash Buttons in Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 are unable to publish or export a Macromedia Generator template file (SWT) from Macromedia Flash MX.

Reason

The Flash button templates used by Macromedia Dreamweaver are created using Macromedia Flash 5 and Macromedia Generator objects. Macromedia Flash MX does not support Generator SWT publishing or Generator objects. See the Macromedia Generator software page for details.

Solution
Macromedia Flash 5 must be used to publish the SWT file for the Flash button template. Macromedia Flash MX can be used to author other Flash features, but to create the final button template the file must be opened in Macromedia Flash 5 and published as an SWT.

Note:Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 users can download additional button templates from the Dreamweaver Exchange. Click the Get More Styles button within the Insert Flash Button dialog box (Insert > Interactive Images> Flash Buttons) to be taken to the Macromedia Dreamweaver Exchange.

Additional information
For more information about using Macromedia Flash 5 to create new button templates, please refer to the article Creating Flash 5 button templates for Dreamweaver 4 using the Generator Text object.
