How to setup the Dreamweaver MX workspace

Dreamweaver MX allows you to change the workspace layout. Those that prefer the old Dreamweaver style or are familiar with HomeSite can set up Dreamweaver MX to use those workspace layouts.

Dreamweaver MX workspace options are found in the Preferences panel (Edit>Preferences > General). Choose the Change Workspace... button.

This will open the Workspace Setup window (below) and the selections may be modified.
Note: All changes made at this point will only be seen after relaunching MX. When Dreamweaver launches for the first time, three choices appear with a prompt to choose a layout interface for:

  • Dreamweaver MX Workspace
  • A checkbox option for HomeSite/Coder-style
  • Dreamweaver 4 Workspace

Choosing the Dreamweaver MX Workspace option will use the new MX interface with the docked panels on the right-hand side.
Choosing the HomeSite/Coder-Style option will offer the closest resemblance to the HomeSite interface. This is similar to the MX layout except that the panels are displayed on the left-hand side.
Choosing the Dreamweaver 4 Workspace will use the version 4 environment with floating panels.

Note: All changes made after choosing a layout the first time can be changed later in the application Preferences.
