Publish Web command: transferring with FrontPage Server extensions
The Publish Web command is an extension for Dreamweaver that allows you to transfer files using FrontPage server extensions instead of FTP. This will be useful for users migrating to Dreamweaver from FrontPage, or who must connect to a FrontPage-enabled server.
Installing the extension
Locate the extension
The extension can be downloaded from the Adobe Exchange. Once at the Exchange for Dreamweaver, log in with your user name and password if not already recognized and search for "Publish Web."
Download and installation
- From the Publish Web Command Extension page, choose the link for the appropriate platform.
- Choose to download the extension to someplace on your hard drive. The file extension will be MXP.
- Launch the Macromedia Extension Manager either as a separate application or from within Dreamweaver (Commands > Manage Extensions).
- Within the Extension Manager, choose File > Install Extension. Make sure Dreamweaver is selected as the application to extend, and browse to locate the MXP file you downloaded.
- Restart Dreamweaver to activate the extension.
Using the extension
Once the extension is installed, Dreamweaver lists an additional option in the Access menu of the Remote Info category when editing a site.
- Within either the Document or Site window, choose Site > Define Sites.
- From the list of available sites, choose the site with which you wish to connect to the FrontPage server, and choose Edit.
- Within the Site Definition dialog box, choose the Remote Info category.
- From the Access drop-down menu, you will now see FrontPage Server. Choose this option and enter the connection information for your site.
Note: No one but your server administrator has your connection information. Please contact your server administrator and write down the information given.
Troubleshooting issues
In order for Dreamweaver to connect to the server using the extension, permissions and authentication have to be configured a certain way on the FrontPage server. For configuration guidelines, see "Connection issues using the Publish Web command" (TechNote 15685).
Known issues with the Publish Web command are described in "Performance issues using the Publish Web command" (TechNote 16234).
If experiencing other issues with the extension, you can talk with other extension users in the Dreamweaver forum. For access to this and other forums, go to Adobe Online Forums.
