Netscape 6.2 has problems utilizing the Macromedia Flash Player 6 plug-in on OS X

Issue

Netscape 6.2 is not able to use the Macromedia Flash Player 6 plug-in installed in the user's Internet Plug-ins folder. Even after the Macromedia Flash Player 6 plug-in has been installed on OS X, a broken puzzle piece icon appears in Netscape 6.2 when browsing to a website that has an embedded Macromedia Flash movie.

Reason

On OS X, Netscape 6.2 will not be able to use the Macromedia Flash Player 6 plug-in if it is installed by a user who is logged on without administrative permissions.

Solution

  1. Delete the Macromedia Flash Player 6 plug-in from the following directories:

    - OSX:LIBRARY:INTERNET PLUG-INS
    - OSX:USERS:USERNAME:LIBRARY:INTERNET PLUG-INS
  2. Log into OS X as an administrator.
  3. Reinstall the Macromedia Flash Player 6 plug-in while logged on as an administrator.
