What is CarbonLib and where do I get it?
CarbonLib is a Macintosh Extension that allows software to be run on both Macintosh OS X and the Macintosh OS 9.x operating systems. Macromedia Flash MX requires CarbonLib 1.5 or later to run on Macintosh OS 9.x (the CarbonLib functionality is built into Macintosh OS X, so nothing additional is required for that operating system).
The Macromedia Flash MX installer will install CarbonLib 1.5 if the installer is run in Classic mode and the system does not already have CarbonLib 1.5 installed. However, if the installer is not run in Classic mode it will not automatically install CarbonLib 1.5. To use Flash MX in Classic mode, either search Apple Support for the latest version of CarbonLib to install or run the Flash MX installer in Classic mode.
Note:CarbonLib 1.6 is the latest version as of the writing of this TechNote.
Additional information
For more information on CarbonLib or to download a copy, refer to Apple Support. Because CarbonLib is a Macintosh Extension it requires the system to be restarted before it can be used.
CarbonLib can also be upgraded with Apple's Software Update service. With Macintosh OS X, use System Preferences > System> Software Update; and for Macintosh OS 9.x, use the Control Panel > Software Update.
