Using the local video object in Macromedia Flash MX

Macromedia Flash MX now has the ability to create a local video object. The local video object can display a video stream directly from a video camera or webcam attached to the local machine.

Creating a local video object

1

Open the options menu in the Library panel.

2 Select 'New Video' from the Library panel drop-down menu.

  A new object will appear in the Library called 'Embedded Video 1'.
3 Drag an instance of the Embedded Video object from the Library onto the stage. The video object will simply look like a blue box outline on the stage.
4 Give the video instance an instance name in the property inspector.
5 On the same frame where the video instance exists, insert the following ActionScript:
localCamera = camera.get();
localVidInstance.attachVideo(localCamera);
6 Save the file and test the movie.When the movie loads, a Macromedia Flash player dialog box will display, giving the option to allow or deny the movie access to the local camera.
7 Select Allow, and the movie should now display the video stream from the local camera.

Note:The video stream is only accessible from the local computer. It is not possible for users on other computers to see the video stream.
