The Shockwave Player cannot be installed on Mac OS X

This TechNote addresses Shockwave Player installation problems on Macintosh OS X operating systems.

Issue

On some OS X systems, the Shockwave Player installer will fail with the following error: "Error creating file 1008:5,-5000 Access denied error".

Reason

Installing software on a Mac OS X system requires an Admin user name and password. This error is produced when the user who logged on to the computer does not have permission to install software on the system.

Solution

Log onto the system as the "Admin" user and install the Shockwave player.
