Title

Sounds in a movie clip trigger at unexpected timesProducts affected

Issue

In some cases, sound embedded in a movie clip may trigger at inappropriate times. This may occur even before the clip has appeared onstage, with no corresponding ActionScript causing the sound to play.

Reason

This is usually encountered when the sound is an event sound in the first frame of a movie clip and is most likely caused by file corruption.

Solution

There is no guaranteed way to recover a corrupted file, but the following steps may help:

  • Try copying all the frames of all layers into a new FLA file. This may help reconstruct the FLA internally.

See How to copy frames from one movie to another (TechNote 12863) for details on this process.
  • Place the sound in the second frame of the movie clip instead of the first.
