ColdFusion MX 7: Slow server startup on Red Hat EL4

Issue

When running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, the startup of the ColdFusion MX/JRun server may take four to six minutes.

Reason

JRun connects to the network and tries to resolve the DNS or IP address of the machine when starting. Startup will be slow if there is a problem reconciling them in the /etc/hosts file. One reason for this issue can be that the machine is installed behind a firewall and the hosts file might have a domain pointing to an IP address that is external to the machine.

Solution

Edit the /etc/hosts file so that it recognizes the machine's IP address.
