Troubleshooting Adobe Flash Player for Linux and Solaris

This document provides troubleshooting guidelines for users of Flash Player for Linux and Solaris. These players are available for download from Web Players.

Steps for troubleshooting:
  1. Read the available documentation thoroughly.
For Linux, documentation is available in the Readme file included in the player download. This documentation contains detailed information about configuration and known issues. The Readme file is included with the installer as a .txt file. The Readme for Linux is also available in  Adobe Flash Player for Linux Readme (TechNote tn_15380).

For Solaris, see Flash Player for Solaris ReadMe (TechNote tn_15381).

  2. Remove and reinstall the plug-in.
Most common problems can be solved by performing a clean reinstall of Flash Player.
    1. To remove the plug-in, follow the instructions provided in the appropriate Readme mentioned above.
    2. Download the player from Web Players and reinstall according to the instructions.
  3. Try viewing Flash content from different websites or authors.
This may give you some information about whether the problem is in the content itself or in the playback of content on your machine.
  4. Does your system meet the System Requirements?
Double check the Readme and the Flash Player System Requirements page to make sure that your machine meets all system Requirements for Flash Player.
  5. Does this content play normally on other systems, such as PC or Macintosh?
If you have access to one of these systems, test the content on those machines. If it won't play correctly on the test machine, you may wish to move your focus away from problems on your platform and begin troubleshooting on the PC or Mac.

If you're having trouble getting Flash Player installed and operating properly on a PC or Mac, see Flash Player Support Center for installation support.

If you created the content yourself, more troubleshooting with authoring may be required. Refer to How to Troubleshoot a Flash Movie (TechNote 14218) for guidelines. Developer support is available at the Adobe Flash Support Center.
