Transfer an Adobe product license
What's covered
This document includes Adobe's transfer of license policy for all geos.
For information about transferring a volume license, please contact Adobe Customer Service.
License transfer policy
Adobe allows individuals or businesses to transfer an Adobe product license to another individual or business following the sale or donation of the license.
- If you transfer a license for a product suite, then the license applies to the entire suite of products. Individual products within a product suite are not eligible for a transfer of license.
- Educational versions of Adobe products are not eligible for a transfer of license.
- The transfer of a license includes all versions of that product. If you sell or donate your registered copy of an Adobe product license, then you transfer your rights to all versions of that license as well.
License transfer process
To transfer a license that is registered in your name, do the following steps:
- Contact Adobe Customer Service to obtain a case number.
Note: Failure to obtain a case number from Adobe Customer Service prior to submitting the Transfer of License form will delay processing.
- Open and Save the Transfer of License PDF.
- Follow the instructions on the Transfer of License form and fill in all the fields provided.
- Write your case number and/or customer number on the form.
- Both the transferer and the transferee must sign the Transfer of License form.
- If you are transferring a Macromedia branded Education license, the transferee must provide Adobe with proof of educational status. If you are unable to provide a valid, current student ID that includes name, date, and a photo, then see the following URL on the Adobe website at www.adobe.com/education/purchasing/qualify.html for our list of education qualifications.
- Return the completed Transfer of License form to Adobe:
- Scan the completed form
- Go to www.adobe.com/go/supportportal/
- Type in your Adobe ID and Password and then click Sign in
- Click your case number
- Upload the form
Macromedia branded products
Educational versions of Macromedia branded products are eligible for a transfer of license. (Transferees must provide proof of educational status to complete the transfer.) Adobe acquired Macromedia in 2005.
If you are the registered owner and you are transferring a Macromedia branded product, you must remove the software from your computer.
Note: For Captivate, Contribute 2 or 3, FreeHand MX, Flashpaper 2, or an MX 2004 product, choose Help > Transfer Your Software License and follow the directions.
After Adobe receives the completed Transfer of License form, we will register the software to the new owner. Registration ensures that Adobe recognizes the new owner as the legal licensee who can receive customer service and support.
Please allow three to four weeks for your license transfer request to be processed.
