Shockwave Player version history

The purpose of this document is to provide information to the Shockwave developer community about changes made to new versions of Adobe Shockwave Player, whether those changes involve modifications to the Shockwave Player itself or to the Shockwave installer. A brief summary of these changes is included for each version. Links are provided to other documents that list the changes in further detail.

Note: This document is intended to help developers keep current with changes to Shockwave Player and is not designed to document the entire history of Shockwave. Consequently, it starts with the last major version of Shockwave Player (Shockwave Player 8.0) that was released as of the date this TechNote was first written.

Change Notes: This is an update release of the Shockwave Player that includes fixes for the auto update issues. With 10.1.4.020, users would be offered to upgrade from Shockwave 8.x or higher. It may be noted that no feature has been removed and no function is deprecated in this release.

Change Notes: This is an update release of the Shockwave Player that includes fixes for a number of issues found since the initial release of version 10. In addition to those bug fixes this update also includes changes to the installation process on Windows that include offering the user the Yahoo! Companion Toolbar. Change Notes: This is the initial release of the Shockwave Player version 10 that now supports DVD-Video playback, Windows Media playback (Windows only) and the use of JavaScript syntax within Shockwave content. Change Notes: Updates to the The NetFile and NetLingo xtras. Resolving issues preventing access of local files stored safely within dswMedia folders from being accessed by movies playing in the browser. Resolving issue with the netDone() and netStatus() methods to falsely indicate that successfully completed downloads were still in progress. Updated Xtras are for Windows and Macintosh OS9.x only.

Change Notes: Includes fixes that address security issues related to the Flash Asset Xtra as well as to Net Lingo. In addition the update includes changes to the types of Shockwave installers being delivered. Those downloading the installer while using Internet Explorer on Windows will continue to receive the ultra-shim installer whereas all other users will now receive a full, stand-alone installer.

Change Notes: A few bug fixes have been made to the sound feature and these fixes are being released in an updated Sound Control Xtra. The details on these fixes will become available shortly and will be linked to from this document. Additionally, the auto-update process has been activated for all users with Shockwave player versions of 8.0 and prior.

Change Notes: Installer-only change. The installer was revised to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). This Act restricts companies from collecting personal information from children under 13. Other aesthetic changes were made to the download experience as well.

Change Notes: This is the initial Shockwave Player 8.5, which incorporates great new functionality including interactive 3D, support for Real Media streaming and Flash 5 and Multi-user Server enhancements (UDP messaging and server-side scripting).
