Enabling 2000 connections to the Multiuser Server
The Multiuser Server, by default, allows 50 users to connect. If desired, it is possible to enable 2000 simultaneous connections to the server, by modifying the multiuser.cfg file. The Shockwave Multiuser Server is no longer Developed or supported by Macromedia. For more information see Shockwave Multiuser Server status (TechNote 16688).
To enable 2000 connections to the server:
- In the Shockwave Multiuser Server 3.0 subfolder of your Director 8.5 application folder, locate the Multiuser.cfg file and open it as a text file.
- In the Director users licensing information section:
#================================================================ # Director users licensing information # # If you have purchased a copy of Director 8.5, uncomment the # following two entries and enter your serial number # and name below. This will allow the server to accept # up to 1000 incoming connections. # # For some Windows computers, you may need to reconfigure the # system to allow more connections. Read TechNote #14107 on # http://www.macromedia.com/support/director for more information. #================================================================ # ServerOwnerName = "Enter Your Name Here" # ServerSerialNumber = DRW850-12345-12345-12345
Locate the line that asks for the ServerOwnerName. Delete the pound sign at the beginning of the line and replace the Enter Your Name Here text with your name.
- On the next line, delete the pound sign and replace the serial number with a valid serial number.
- Next, locate the following lines in the Multiuser.cfg file:
# Number of connections the server will handle (up to the license limit)
# ConnectionLimit = 50Locate the line that asks for the ConnectionLimit. Delete the pound sign at the beginning of the line and replace 50 with 2000. Save and close the file.
Note: Versions prior to Multiuser Server 3.0 use the same steps but the ConnectionLimit is only 1000 users
Note: Windows 95, 98 and ME users will need to increase the number of sockets that the system allows. Please refer toThe Multiuser Server is not accepting the maximum number of connections (TechNote 14107). It may not be possible to get 2000 connections on Win 95, 98 or ME.
Macintosh users may need to increase memory partition as well. It is not necessary to reconfigure the system for more connections.
