FTP errors and loss of connection: 530,550

Issue

Some users are getting FTP errors while putting files on their remote servers.

Reason

One reason may be that the files are not transferring before the time-out setting in Dreamweaver preferences has been reached, causing the connection to be lost. This preference can be reset to allow more time to process files, avoid FTP errors, and improve FTP reliability.

Solution

In the Dreamweaver preferences, set the time-out feature to a higher number to allow more time to transfer files.

To solve the problem do the following:

  1. Go to the preferences under Edit.
  2. Select Site FTP.
  3. In the FTP time-out field enter a higher amount. A setting of 60 is good.

For additional information please refer to Error message using Put or Check-in files: Cannot create directory...it already exists.
