The Multiuser Server is not accepting the maximum number of connections

IssueThe Multiuser Server only accepts around 95 connections when running on Windows 95 or 98 machines. The exact amount of connections varies depending on the operating system's other tasks.

Solution
Modify the"Hkey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\MSTCP" registry parameter to increase the maximum number of connections.

Create the following under this registry key:

1

MaxConnections = "250"

2

Data Type = some string

3 Reboot the machine for changes to take effect.

Note: By default the MaxConnections registry value will not already exist and must therefore be created.

The MaxConnections parameter can be set to any integer number presented in string format, but most Windows 95 or Windows 98 machines will only accept around 250 connections. Windows NT, 2000 and XP do not have this limitation.

Note:In Windows NT, 2000, and XP, the number of TCP connections is limited by the amount of kernel memory. The actual limit depends on how much data the TCP connections are sending and receiving. The practical limit is probably between 1000-2000, but performance will likely vary with over 1000 active connections. For accurate results perform thorough testing with the projected number of users.

Important note regarding registry entries
Macromedia does not recommend manually adjusting the Windows registry. Proceed with caution, incorrectly modifying the Windows registry can result in serious Windows or application performance issues. Macromedia Technical Support cannot support any issue(s) caused by modifications to the Windows registry.
