Flash 4 trial upgrade will not launch

Issue

Why does the Flash splash screen tell me that I have the trial version after I have installed the full version of Flash on top of the purchase and download trial version?

Reason

The Flash preferences being using by the full version of Flash is still accessing the old preferences of the trial version. You need to remove the old preferences in order to resolve this issue.

Solution

Make sure to write down your Flash serial number first before attempting to resolve this issue, because you need to re-serialize Flash the next time you restart the program.

Mac Users:
  1. Quit the program.
  2. Trash the Flash Preferences file. The Flash Preferences file is located in your System Folder:Preferences folder.
  3. Restart Flash
PC Users:
  • In order to remove the Flash preferences on the PC, you need to edit the Windows system registry.
  • UN-installing Flash and reinstalling Flash to update the system registry is the easiest way to accomplish this task.
  • You can also manually delete the registry information. Altering the system registry can be hazardous to your system. Make sure you backup your registry before making changes.

Follow these steps to make the changes:

  1. Run "regEdit" from the Window's Start menu.
  2. Navigate into the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" key.
  3. Navigate into the "Software" key.
  4. Navigate into the "Macromedia" key.
  5. Delete the "Flash" key.
  6. Quit "regEdit" and restart Flash.
