Earlier version of Macromedia Flash Player is installed

Issue

Installing or reinstalling Macromedia Flash using the installer results in an earlier version of the Macromedia Flash Player being installed (instead of the latest version.)

Note: This same issue can occur after installing or reinstalling the operating system.

Reason

The Macromedia Flash Player installer on the Macromedia Flash CD or download is an earlier version of the Macromedia Flash Player. There can be updates to the Macromedia Flash Player after the authoring software is released on CD.

The Macromedia Flash Player is installed as a part of many operating systems. However, the operating system may install an older version of the Flash Player instead of the latest version available at Macromedia.com.

Solution

Download the latest Macromedia Flash Player for your platform from the Macromedia Flash Player Download Center, or choose from all available platforms on the Macromedia Web Player Alternates page.
