Why does my Macromedia Flash movie display elements that are animated off stage?

Issue

Elements that are animated off the Flash movie stage can be displayed in the Macromedia Flash Player.

Reason

This will occur when there is extra space allowed for the movie in the HTML that the movie is embedded in.

Solution

To prevent this from occurring, try one of the following:

Create a mask to frame the movie
  1. Create a new layer above all the other layers in the timeline.
  2. Select the Rectangle Tool.
  3. Draw a box the size of the stage and place it directly over the stage.
  4. Double click on the Layer Properties icon (to the left of the layer name) and select "Mask" to change this layer into a mask layer. For more information about masks, see Creating masks.
  5. Double click on the Layer Properties icon for each layer to be masked and select "Masked".
In the HTML code, when specifying pixel values for WIDTH and HEIGHT, use values that are exactly proportional to the movie's dimensions
  • To find out what the specific dimensions are for the movie, go to Modify > Movie.
  • If the movie is 200x400, use dimensions such as 50x100, 150x300 or 400x800
In the HTML code, when using percent values for WIDTH and HEIGHT, also use the SCALE attribute

To learn more about how the HTML width and height settings work, refer to Flash OBJECT and EMBED tag attributes (TechNote 12701). For information on how the scale setting works see Use the SCALE parameter to control how a Flash movie displays in a browser (TechNote 14149).
