Unable to open a Windows FLA file on a Macintosh

Issue

When creating Flash files on Windows and transferring them to the Macintosh, the following message may appear:

"The document "doc_name.fla" could not be opened, because the Application "DOS" could not be found. The document cannot be translated because an unexpected problem has occurred (-2003)"

Reason

This happens because the .fla file does not contain a recognizable resource fork. This issue can be resolved easily.

Solution

On the Macintosh, launch Flash. Go to File>Open, and select All files (not All formats) in the File format pop-up menu. Locate the .fla file, and click open. After the file is opened in Flash, choose File>Save As, and save it to the same location with the same name. Flash will replace the older file with your new version.
