Flash Player and Shockwave Player Movies Prompt Internet Explorer 3.01 Safe Warning

Issue

When pages containing Flash Player or Shockwave Player movies are viewed in Internet Explorer 3.01 and earlier, the following message is displayed:

"This page contains active content that is not verifiably safe to display. To protect your computer, this content will not be displayed."

Reason

On June 30, 1997, Authenticode information in Microsoft Internet Explorer (versions 3.01 and earlier) expired. This prevents Internet Explorer from accurately verifying safe active content, such as Flash Player and Shockwave movies.

Solution

Do one of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Update to Internet Explorer 3.02 or later.

The new relevant security information is incorporated into the newer versions of IE.

Solution 2: Obtain Authenticode 2.0 from Microsoft.

Additional Information

The browser security level can be lowered to Medium or None to allow Flash Player and Shockwave Player movies to display.

Note: This is not recommended as it exposes your system some code that is potentially unsafe.
