TechNote (Archived)

Using Breeze 4.1, participants cannot connect to Breeze Live due to port 1935 not being open

By default, Breeze Live listens on port 1935. Port 1935 must be open on the firewall/proxy server on the server side and also on the client side in order for the communication between the server and client to take place. There are times when the client's firewall/proxy server has blocked port 1935 for inbound and outbound traffic and the client will not be able to access the Breeze Live meeting.

As the host of the Breeze Live server, it's not possible to request every client to open port 1935 on their firewall/proxy server. Therefore, we recommend that the host of the Breeze Live server modify the Breeze Live configuration so that it will also support port 443. Port 443 is a secure port, and the majority of the corporate firewall/proxy servers typically have this port already open. This will allow the client to use port 443 to connect to the Breeze Live meeting.

Note: Even though port 443 is now added to the Breeze Live server to listen on, port 1935 is still needed by the Breeze Live server and therefore, you should not disable port 1935, as this will break your Breeze Live server.

If the client still cannot access the Breeze Live meeting after port 443 has been added, try the suggestion in this TechNote, by adding port 80 to Breeze Live server.

The instructions below will walk you through how to add port 443 for Breeze Live to listen on.

The only file to modify is the custom.ini file located in %\Breeze (by default, custom.ini is located in C:\Breeze).

  1. Open %\Breeze\custom.ini, using Notepad or any text editor.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the custom.ini file
  3. On a blank line, add DEFAULT_FCS_HOSTPORT by copying and pasting the line below:

    DEFAULT_FCS_HOSTPORT=:1935,443
  4. Save and close the custom.ini file.
  5. Restart the Breeze services in the order listed below:
    • Macromedia Breeze Application Service
    • Flash Communication Admin Service
    • Flash Communication Server

To test a Breeze Live meeting, browse to the web address: http://{ADMIN_HOST}/common/intro/intro.html

Note: You will need to replace the{ADMIN_HOST} with the URL that is set in theADMIN_HOST in the custom.ini file.

Note: % should be replaced with the drive that Breeze server is installed on. For example, if we had installed Breeze on D: drive, it would be D:\Breeze\custom.ini.
