Windows Specific Installation

If you are using the 16-bit version of Netscape, even with Windows 95, you must use the 16-bit version of Flash Player. If you are using the 32-bit version of Netscape, you must use the 32-bit version of Flash Player. If you aren't sure which version of Netscape you are using on Windows 95/98/NT, install both versions of Flash Player.

Also, check to see if there is more than one "Plug-ins" folder in Netscape's folder or sub-folders. If there is more than one, copy Flash Player into all of those locations.

Make sure that Flash Player itself is installed in the "Plug-ins" folder, and not the original file you downloaded. The downloaded file is an installer. Double-click the downloaded file to run the installer. Follow the directions in the Installer window to install the Flash Player.

The installed Flash Player is called:

  • NPSWF32.dll (32-bit version for Windows 95/98/NT)
  • NPSWF16.dll (16-bit version for Windows 3.1 or 16-bit version of Netscape)

After installing Flash Player (or adding anything into the "Plug-ins" folder(s)), exit Netscape and start it up again fresh.

Note: For Flash version 1, the Flash Player is called:

  • NPSPL32.dll (32-bit version for Windows 95/98/NT)
  • NPSPL16.dll (16-bit version for Windows 3.1 or 16-bit version of Netscape)

These files are no longer required once you have NPSWF32.dll or NPSWF16.dll installed and should be removed from the plugins folder.
