Dial-up accelerators cause Flash movies to not display

Issue

Some dial-up Internet Service Providers (ISP's) offer a "high-speed" dial-up option. Dial-up accelerators allow web pages to download more quickly through compression and by giving you the option to reduce the quality of images (JPEG, GIF, etc.) within the web page. In some cases dial-up accelerators can affect Flash Movie Playback by removing active-x plugins from the webpage.

Reason

This is a known issue, generally associated with a dial-up accelerator setting or due to a corruption in the dial-up accelerator.

Solution

If you are experiencing this issue with the MSN 9 Dial Up service, the Dial Up Accelerator on your computer may have corrupted files, causing the Flash content not to appear. To resolve this issue turn off the Dial Up Accelerator (or set the Level to "Level - 0 None").

These steps resolve the issue:

  1. Start MSN but do not sign in.
  2. On the MSN Welcome screen:
    1. choose Connection Settings
    2. choose Modify a Location
    3. choose Next.
  3. When the MSN Dial-up Accelerator settings appear, select the following option:
    1. None: MSN Dial-up Accelerator is turned off. With this setting you connect to the Internet at your usual dial-up speed.
  4. Click Save Changes, and then click OK.

Additional Information

Your MSN Dial-up Accelerator settings are shared with other MSN Premium or MSN Plus sub accounts on your computer. If another account user makes changes to the MSN Dial-up Accelerator settings, this will affect all MSN accounts on the computer.
