Dreamweaver 8.0.1 Updater installation issues
The following issues may affect installation of the Macromedia Dreamweaver 8.0.1 Updater.
Note: The updater described in this TechNote only updates Dreamweaver 8. Refer to the Dreamweaver Updaters page for information on other updaters.
The following items are discussed in this TechNote:
- Disable virus protection software prior to installation
- Back up site definitions prior to installation
- The Dreamweaver 8.0.1 Updater is currently only available for the English version
- Canceling the Dreamweaver 8.0.1 Updater for Windows during file transfer can cause problems
Disable virus protection software prior to installation
As noted in General guidelines for software installation (TechNote tn_3533), it's recommended to disable virus protection software before installing any Macromedia product. This applies to installation of the Dreamweaver 8.0.1 Updater.
Note: You should restart virus protection after installation. You can also adjust your virus protection settings to optimize Dreamweaver 8 performance. Please review Slow system performance using Dreamweaver or Dreamweaver UltraDev (TechNote 16104), which also applies to Dreamweaver 8.
Back up site definitions prior to installation
While the updater installation should maintain site definitions, it is always a good idea to have a back up of your site definitions. As a precaution, back up your site definitions prior to installing the updater. This does not apply to site files themselves. These files are never touched during installation. SeeImporting and exporting sites in the Using Dreamweaver LiveDocs for more information.
The Dreamweaver 8.0.1 Updater is currently only available for the English version
Localized versions of the Dreamweaver 8 Updater for the non-English versions of Dreamweaver 8 will be made available shortly. The English version of the updater should not be installed on localized versions of Dreamweaver 8, so be sure to install the correct updater for your language version.
Canceling the Dreamweaver 8.0.1 Updater for Windows during file transfer can cause problems
If you cancel the Windows version of the updater during the file transfer phase (progress bar says transferring new files), Dreamweaver is left in a corrupted state. This is a problem with the MSI installer technology (other users have reported it to InstallShield) and Macromedia is not in control of this problem. One of two outcomes results when canceling the updater installation during the file transfer phase:
- Dreamweaver is still updated to 8.0.1.
- Dreamweaver is reverted to 8.0.
Either way, the updater cannot be run a second time. The current workaround for this issue is to uninstall Dreamweaver 8.0 and reinstall both Dreamweaver 8.0 and the Dreamweaver 8.0.1 Updater.
