Linked media fails behind proxy server

Issue

If a Macromedia Authorware piece links to media via a URL (for example, mediapath := http://www.yourdomain.com/YourCourse/image.jpg), the media will fail to appear on computers that are set up to use a proxy sever. This applies to images in Display and Interaction icons, Flash movies shown via the Asset Xtra, and all files linked to via any ActiveX control.

Reason

The Authorware Web Player does not have access to the browser's proxy settings, and therefore cannot find the media referenced. Similarly, ActiveX controls embedded in Authorware will also not have access to the browser's proxy settings.

Solution

Download media to the user's hard drive using the Map file or one of the Network functions that downloads files, then link to them locally.
