Template child pages are not updated when parent template is changed
Issue
After you make a change to a parent template .dwt file, the child pages dependent on that template are not updated to reflect the changes on the parent template.
Solution
Here are some things to look for iftemplate changes don't propagate:
- Verify that you didn't rename the Templates folder at the root level of your local root folder. If you did change the name, then change it back to Templates.
- Verify that you didn't move the Templates folder to some other folder level in the site other than the root level. If you did move the Templates folder, then move it back to the root level.
- Verify that you didn't move your template (.dwt file) out of the Templates folder. If you did move the .dwt file out of the Templates folder, then move it back inside.
- Verify that you didn't make changes to an editable region of the template. Changes made to editable regions in .dwt files will not propagate to child pages. Only changes to locked regions will propagate.
- See if your local child pages actually were updated, but you didn't upload the changed child pages to the server. Just uploading a .dwt file to a server won't update child pages on the server.
- Try recreating the Dreamweaver site cache in case the link between the template and the child pages has been broken. Select Site > Advanced > Recreate Site Cache.
- Verify that you didn't create your child pages by opening the template, adding page-specific content, and then re-saving the template with an .html extension rather than a .dwt extension. You can tell if this is the case by looking at the code on a child page. If you see something similar to
<!-- TemplateBeginEditable...then this is what has happened. If you have done this, then recreate the child pages using File > New > Templates.
