Fireworks 8 Emerging Issues

Some users have reported that the following issues are affecting their usage of Fireworks 8. Issues described in this document may prove to be platform or system specific, and may not affect all users. Technical support will update this document as we learn more about any of the issues, so check back frequently.

Links to LiveDocs do not work within the Fireworks Help (Mac OS X 10.3 Only)

Issue

Mac OS X 10.3 users are unable to use links within the help system to navigate to the LiveDocs located on the Macromedia web site. This is not a problem for those running Mac OS X 10.4.

Solution

Copy the link and paste it into a browser window to navigate to the link. Using a right click or Control click on the link will allow you to copy the link to the clipboard.

Issue

After applying a color to an object, there appears to be a band of lighter color around one or more edges.

Solution

Fireworks 8 introduced a feature allowing faster resampling, and this feature is enabled by default. To disable this feature, access the Fireworks 8 Preferences. In the General tab, deselect the option for "Faster but less accurate resampling".

Copied GIFs from a browser to Fireworks are displaying artifacts or holes in the image

Issue

Copied GIFs from a browser to Fireworks are displaying artifacts or holes in the image.

Solution

Here are a couple of options for working around this issue.

  • Save the file to disk, then open it in Fireworks.
  • Draw a rectangle and fill it with the color that is missing from the image. Then place this rectangle behind the image.
Edit in Fireworks launches Fireworks MX 2004 instead of Fireworks 8

Issue

After selecting an image in Dreamweaver 8 and clicking on the Fireworks icon in the Property Inspector to edit the image in Fireworks, Fireworks MX 2004 (or other previously installed version) launches instead of Fireworks 8, (Ref. 196137)

Solution

In the Preference dialog box for File Types/Editors in Dreamweaver 8 (Edit > Preferences, select File Types/Editors), perform the following steps:

  • Remove any Editors for file types that are associated with Fireworks by selecting the application and pressing the minus button.
  • Add back an editor pointing to the Fireworks executable (Fireworks.exe) for Fireworks 8. Fireworks.exe is located in C:/Program Files/Macromedia/Fireworks 8, unless installed to a non-default location
Corruption errors when installing downloaded Fireworks 8

Issue

Some customers are experiencing the following error after downloading Fireworks 8:

"The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the file, verify its integrity, and try again."

Solution

Information in the Download Help ServiceNote (ServiceNote tn_15296) should help identify the problem and provide a solution.

If the ServiceNote does not help resolve the issue, please contact Macromedia Customer Service.

Customers who ordered Studio 8 as a download are reporting some downloads missing

Issue

Customers who ordered Studio 8 as a download are reporting some downloads missing.

Solution

Studio 8 consists of 8 downloads, and there are two pages for this in the customer's membership download section. Use the arrow at the top of the first download page to move to the second page.

When clicking the color well within some filter's dialog box, the system color picker is not launched (Mac OS X 10.4.x only)

Issue

Eye Candy and Alien Skin Splat filters: Clicking on the color wells inside of these filter's dialog boxes does not launch a system color picker of any kind. This issue is specific to Mac OS 10.4 only. (Ref 195132)

Solution

Even though the color picker is not opening, the eyedropper will be active at this point and will allow the sampling of a color already in use.

When using a pressure sensitive tablet, the resulting stroke does not match the preview that was seen while drawn

Solution

There is no known solution for this issue.

Unable to preview xhtml file on Safari 2.0 correctly (Mac OS X only)

Issue

Exported files from Fireworks as Dreamweaver XHTML will not properly preview in Safari 2.0.(Ref 193240)

Solution

While this issue is limited to Safari and is not a problem with other browsers (for example, Internet Explorer) it is suggested that you rename the file to HTML for it to properly display in Safari.

Fireworks installs in a different language even though Studio 8 is in English

Solution

Original Issue

After installing the English version of Macromedia Studio 8 or Fireworks 8, Fireworks launches in a different language, such as Japanese.
