FLV Stand Alone Encoder requires install repair after upgrading to QuickTime 7

Issue

After installing QuickTime 7, the Macromedia Flash Video (FLV) Encoder throws an error requesting the installer to repair the install.

Reason

If one installs the FLV Encoder over QuickTime version 6.x or lower and then installs QuickTime 7, the QuickTime installer moves the FLV QT Export Plug-in from its original location (windows/sytem32/QuickTime) to the location QuickTime 7 keeps its plug-ins (Program Files/QuickTime/QTComponents). The FLV Encoder is not provided a redirection to the correct file path.

Solution

There are two ways to resolve this issue:

  • Uninstall the FLV Encoder and reinstall it from the CD
  • Copy the FLV.qtx and MMxptResources.dll files from the "Program Files/QuickTime/QTComponents" directory back into the "windows/sytem32" directory.

Note: Copy and paste the files; do not move the files.
