Flash Player 8 not supported by FlexBuilder 1.5

Issue

With the release of Flash Player 8, Macromedia Flex users may take advantage of new features and performance enhancements. However, Flash Player 8 will not be supported with the FlexBuilder 1.5 development tool.

Reason

FlexBuilder interacts with the Flash Player in the following areas:

Design view
Network Monitor
AS Debugger

The design view uses Windows Test Movie Player but since the version of authplay in FlexBuilder 1.5 hasn't been upgraded, it won't use the new player. The network monitor interacts with the Flash Player via sockets and RTMP and works properly with Flash Player 8. The AS Debugger leverages FDB, which doesn't support Flash Player 8 yet. The result is that there are no variables under the variable panel. Using Flash Player 8 with the FlexBuilder AS Debugger won't be a supported configuration.

Solution

To work around the problem, please use the debug version of Flash Player 7 with Macromedia FlexBuilder 1.5. For detailed installation instructions, please refer to Installing the Flash Debug Player (TechNote tn_19245).
