The Paste HTML option is missing from the Dreamweaver 8 Edit menu

Issue

In Macromedia Dreamweaver 8, under the Edit menu, the Paste HTML and Copy HTML options are missing. In Dreamweaver 8, the Paste Special option was added and was meant to replace Paste HTML and Copy HTML. Using the Paste HTML option, however, users cannot paste HTML code into Design view and have it render as formatted HTML and place the correct code in Code view. Instead, Dreamweaver displays the code in Design view. If you look in Code view, the less-than (<) signs and greater-than (>) signs are encoded.

Solution

There are a couple of workflows that avoid this problem:

  • Paste HTML code into Dreamweaver's Code view.
  • Paste formatted HTML (not code), into Dreamweaver's Design view.

If the suggestions above don't fit your workflow, then you can download an extension created by Macromedia that brings back the Paste HTML and Copy HTML menu options in Dreamweaver 8. The extension is for both Windows and Macintosh. (Ref. 184897).
