Adobe active content JavaScript fix fails in some installations of Internet Explorer
Issue
A small number of users are reporting that the active content fix created by Adobe (included in Dreamweaver 8.0.2) does not work as expected with their installation of Internet Explorer. The problem is not page specific, as any page that contains the fix does not work as expected with these installations of Internet Explorer. For example, if you browse to the sample "fixed" page on the Developer Center and hover over the Flash movie, you still see the gray box around it and the "click to activate and use this control" tool tip. (Ref. 206758)
Reason
The cause of this problem is the presence of an older version of the jscript.dll file used by Internet Explorer. As of May 2, 2006, the version of jscript.dll that should be installed is version 5.6.0.8820.
Solution
Replace the older version of jscript.dll with version 5.6.0.8820 in Windows Safe Mode.
Note: You must replace the jscript.dll in Safe Mode because Windows will automatically recreate the file if it is deleted or moved in Normal Mode.
- Download jscript.zip to the desktop of the machine having the problem.
- Extract jscript.dll, version 5.6.0.8820, to a folder on the desktop of the machine having the problem. You will move the old file to the desktop in step 4.
- Restart your computer in Safe Mode.
- Once in Safe Mode, browse to
C:\WINDOWS\System32\and move the oldjscript.dllto the desktop. - Copy the jscript.dll, version 5.6.0.8820 into
C:\WINDOWS\System32\. - Restart Windows in Normal Mode.
- Browse to the sample "fixed" page on the Developer Center and verify that it now works as expected, with no gray border around the Flash movie.
