Title

Creating relative hyperlinks for Breeze presentations published locallyProducts affected

Issue

Breeze Presenter does not retain relative file paths for hyperlinks to external SWF files when publishing locally. The links break after publishing.

Reason

This is a PowerPoint issue caused by its management of relative links.

Solution

You will need to create a top level folder that will contain all of the files published by Breeze. This will ensure that your presentation will be mobile and can be moved to a different directory/location and retain link functionality. You will also need to manually edit the hyperlinks to establish the relative file paths. Follow the steps below:

  1. Create a folder that will contain your published Breeze Presenter files in the same directory location as your .ppt file. If you intend on distributing your presentation, this folder will be included, so be sure to name it accordingly, for example,BreezeTraining1. (Note: Do not save your .ppt file in this folder, this is strictly to be used for published Breeze files only.)
  2. Next, create a folder inside of BreezeTraining1 that will contain all of your linked .swf files (for example,LinkedFiles).
  3. Copy all files that are to be used in hyperlinks in your presentation to the LinkedFiles folder.
  4. With your presentation open in PowerPoint, select the Insert menu and click on Hyperlink.
  5. When the Edit Hyperlink dialogue box appears, enter the text for your hyperlink in the "Text to display:" text box.
  6. Navigate to the appropriate file for this hyperlink. The address should look like this:BreezeTraining1\LinkedFiles\YourFile (Note: If you have any other folder names in front of BreezeTraining1 just delete them and continue.)
  7. Edit the address by appending "..\" (no quotations) to the beginning of the address. This will achieve the relative link functionality we are looking for.
  8. Your Address should now look like this: "..\BreezeTraining1\LinkedFiles\YourFile"
  9. Click OK.
  10. Publish your presentation to the BreezeTraining1 folder and test your links.
  11. Click on Breeze > Publish.
  12. Click the Browse button and select the BreezeTraining1 folder. Click OK.
  13. Click Publish.
  14. Click View Output and test your links.
  15. To distribute this file to multiple locations, simply copy theBreezeTraining1 folder and distribute as necessary.
