Breeze server restarts periodically

Issue

The Breeze/Connect Enterprise server restarts itself anywhere from one to five or more times daily.

If you look at the debug.log file that resides in the C:\breeze\logs\support directory (assuming that Breeze/Connect is installed on the C drive), the following debug messages can be seen:

[12-09 02:26:04] he (d) 0ms spid:56 com.macromedia.breeze.builder.Scheduler.shutDown(2)
[12-09 02:26:04] he (d) ####Scheduler: shutting down (status=active, date_expired=Fri Dec 09 02:26:14 EST 2005, DB TIME=Fri Dec 09 02:26:23 EST 2005).

The text above contains the Breeze/Connect server and the database server times. It prints the Breeze/Connect server time first, then the database time. In this example, you can see the time on the Breeze server is 02:26:04 and the database server time is 02:26:23.

Note: If you are using the embedded Breeze/Connect database (for example, if your Breeze/Connect server and the database server are all on the same machine), this same problem may occur if drift in your system clock causes the local machine time to "jump" periodically.

Other Symptoms:
  • Breeze Meeting/Acrobat Connect Professional user's may experience a loss of connectivity during a meeting and Breeze Presenter/Adobe Presenter and Breeze Training/Connect Training user's may experience "Page Not Found" errors when trying to connect to the Breeze/Connect Enterprise server while it's restarting.
  • Another indicator that Breeze/Connect is trying to restart is to look in the Event Viewer and find a message that looks like this: "FMS has detected system time is going backwards; shutting down server."
  • Filtering through the debug.log and finding that the time is going backwards such as this is another indicator:

    [07-27 09:56:22] sche (d) 0ms spid:51 com.macromedia.breeze.batch.BatchManager.getNewActions(0)
    [07-27 09:56:22] sche (d) 0ms spid:51 com.macromedia.airspeed.db.DBConnection.fetch(16148)
    [07-27 09:56:23] sche (d) 0ms spid:51 com.macromedia.airspeed.db.DBConnection.fetch(10882)
    [07-27 09:45:59] sche (d) 0ms spid:51 com.macromedia.airspeed.db.SQLServerUtilityQueries.ping

Reason

The Breeze/Connect Enterprise server is restarting due to a de-synchronization of the time between the server hosting Breeze/Connect and the server hosting the database.

Solution

In order to resolve this issue, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the root:\breeze\appserv\win32\jvm.config directory (where root is the location where Connect is installed).
  2. Make a backup copy of the jvm.config file.
  3. Use a text editor, such as Notepad, to open the jvm.config file.
  4. On the line that says œjava.args=, add this argument to the very end:

    -XX:+ForceTimeHighResolution
  5. Restart all Breeze/Connect services.
