Enrollees get incorrectly locked into Review mode in training courses

Issue

Enrollees can be locked into Review mode, even though the reports indicate they have an "Incomplete" or "Fail" status on the course/curriculum item. When a course is launched in Review mode, no further scores will be recorded by the Breeze server. Normally, Review mode is reserved for courses that have a "Complete" or "Pass" status when enrollees are allowed multiple attempts at the course.

Reason

The above issue occurs when enrollees launch the same course in 2 windows at the same time. This can occur under any one of the following conditions:

  • Enrollee clicks on the link and selects "Open in new window".
  • Enrollee uses some other click-key combination that forces the course to launch in a new browser window.
  • Enrollee manually copies/pastes the URLs in multiple browser windows at the same time.

Note: In versions of Breeze prior to Breeze 5.1 SP2 (5.1 r168), users could wind up incorrectly locked into review mode by double clicking on the course/curriculum item link in addition to the above conditions.

The above actions will bypass the "target=" attribute on the course/curriculum item hyperlink and result in the opening of the same item in multiple windows at the same time.

If the enrollee quits midway through the course or fails in the first window then closes the second window, the course may lock into Review mode for future attempts.

Solution

This is a known issue that is currently scheduled to be fixed in a future release of Breeze. We recommend that you take measures to inform your enrollees that they should only launch Breeze training courses in a single window.

Please contact Breeze Product Support for help unlocking users who are incorrectly stuck in Review mode.
