Troubleshoot Adobe Flash Player for Intel-based Macs

This document provides troubleshooting guidelines for users of Adobe Flash Player and Intel-based Macs. Users can download the latest release of Flash Player 10, which runs natively on Intel-based Macs, from the Adobe Flash Player Download Center.

Note: Starting with the Adobe Flash Player 10 release, new versions of Flash Player are no longer available for Macintosh OSX 10.1-10.3, operating systems. This is due to enhancements and features added in Flash Player 10 that cannot be supported on older operating systems. If you are running OSX 10.1-10.3, please read "Flash Player 9 for Unsupported Operating Systems" (TechNote kb406791).

Steps for troubleshooting Flash Player 10

If you have trouble installing Flash Player 10 for Intel-based Macs, then follow these troubleshooting steps. If one step does not correct the problem, then move on to the next step. For optimal troubleshooting, restart your machine after each step and test Adobe Flash Player by viewing the Adobe Flash Player version test before moving onto the next step.

1. Verify the installed version of Flash Player by viewing the Adobe Flash Player version test.

If the installed version is 10.0.22.87, then you have the latest release of Flash Player 10 installed, otherwise, please install the latest version of Flash Player 10 from the Adobe Flash Player Download Center.

2. Check permissions.

Your user permissions may not allow you to install or run the Adobe Flash Player plug-in successfully.

If you are getting the error "creating file: 1008:5, -5000 Access Denied Error" when installing Flash Player, please see "Flash Player installation fails on Macintosh" (TechNote 4aa64290).

3. Reinstall Flash Player.

Many issues are related to a problem with a previous installation of Flash Player or to browser configuration. To reinstall Flash Player, first run the Flash Player Uninstaller. Then download and run the Flash Player 10 installer available from the Adobe Flash Player Download Center.

4. Reinstall the browser.

Download and install the latest version from your browser manufacturer's website. Check the system requirements to ensure the browser is supported on Intel-based Macs. Follow the instructions to install Flash Player 10 from the Adobe Flash Player Download Center.
