Registration error message appears when launching Authorware 7
Issue
When restricted users try to access Macromedia Authorware 7.0, they get an error: "Encountered an unknown error while trying to run the registration program 'Contact.exe' ".
Reason
The Contact.exe is only installed with versions of Authorware prior to 7, such as version 6.5. However, Authorware 7 still looks for this file when restricted users try to access Authorware.
Solution
- Provide your users with "write" access to the Authorware directory. The network administrator will have to set this.
- Get an old copy of Authorware's Contact.exe file, and place this into the Authorware 7 directory (usually C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Authorware 7.0).
- If you have Authorware 6.5, copy the Contact.exe from the Authorware 6.5 application folder (usually C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Authorware 6.5, or C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Authorware 6.
- If you dont have any previous versions of Authorware, download Contact.zip and extract Contact.exe into the appropriate location.
- After placing the Contact.exe in the Authorware 7.0 directory, launch Authorware 7.0 as an administrator and click the 'Dont Remind Me' button. Follow the instructions from Registration error message appears when launching Authorware 6.5 (TechNote tn_16578)
