Q. Is there a limit on how large a PDF file I can convert with Adobe ExportPDF?
A. Adobe ExportPDF supports conversion of PDF files up to 100 MB.

Q. Will the file I upload for conversion be stored online?
A. The source file is not available for reprocessing. For more information, see the Terms of Use

Q. Can I convert documents to a format that Microsoft Office XP or Office 2003 can read?
A. Adobe ExportPDF converts PDF documents to .doc and .docx. If you have Office XP (2002) or Office 2003, Adobe recommends that you convert PDF documents to .docx and get a compatibility pack from Microsoft. This compatibility pack allows earlier versions of Word to open .docx files. You can download the compatibility pack from http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=3.

Q. Will Adobe ExportPDF convert any type of PDF file?
A. Adobe ExportPDF converts most of the PDF files available today, including PDF files containing scanned documents. There are a few types of PDF files that cannot be converted, however. These types include the following:

  • PDF Portfolios
  • PDF files that require a password to open the document
  • PDF files generated from Adobe Illustrator
  • PDF files that have permissions applied to prevent printing, copying, or altering of the content
  • XFA-based forms

Q. Does Adobe ExportPDF support OCR?
A. Adobe ExportPDF uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to turn scanned images into digital text. It converts PDF files containing content in the following languages: English (US), English (UK), French, German, Spanish, Japanese, and Italian. The digital text is saved as editable text in your new document. Adobe ExportPDF then uses sophisticated conversion intelligence to preserve as much of the page layout as possible. For more information, see Using OCR in Adobe ExportPDF.

Q. It's taking a long time to export my PDF files. How can I improve processing speed?
A. Processing can take longer when OCR is enabled. If you don't need to convert scanned text to editable text, then consider turning off OCR.

Q. Will Adobe ExportPDF convert both text and formatting information?
A. Adobe ExportPDF can export high-quality information, but the quality of the converted document depends on the quality of the PDF file you start with. For example, if you authored the file in Word and converted it to PDF using the PDF Maker functionality in Acrobat, the PDF file contains a rich set of information that Adobe ExportPDF can capture.

Q. What happens to comments that exist in my PDF?
A. They become text boxes in the converted document.

Q. Why can't I see updates in my document after I convert it for a second time?
A. Adobe ExportPDF isn't able to overwrite an open file.  To convert a PDF document for a second time, make sure that the file has a different name. Also make sure that that the first version is not open.
